Eine illustrierte Vorlese-Reise (Teil 5):
Der Herrn der Ringe als Vorleselektüre ist an sich bereits eine Herausforderung … vor allem an die/den Zuhörende*n 😉
Aber wenn die Zuhörende eine 92-Jährige ist, wird die Sache interessant.
Das vierte Buch geht ziemlich düster aber latent hoffnungsvoll zur Neige, aber offenbar trübt das die Stimmung meiner Seniorin üüüüüberhaupt nicht und das fünfte und vorletzte Buch kann beginnen.

Mit dem fünften Buch des “Herrn der Ringe” wechselt erneut die Perspektive der Blick geht weiter nach Westen nach Gondor. Meiner 92-jährigen Zuhörerin ist es eigentlich ziemlich egal, wer gerade im Schlamassel steckt und freut sich über Nachrichten aus Mittelerde … wobei … dieses (!) Werk von J.R.R. Tolkien werde ich dann wohl doch nicht auf die Leseliste setzen. Ich befürchte, die dort überbordenden Namen und Orte würden zu sehr verwirren. Die Midjourney-Illustrationen helfen weiterhin, sich die schönen und hässlichen Dinge des Großmeisters der Phantastik besser vorzustellen.

Das 4. Buch endet im Osten düster aber latent hoffnungsvoll, während das 5. Buch weiter westlich zwar weniger düster ist, aber Bedrohliches ankündigt … der Sturm steht unmittelbar bevor.
Denethor trauert um Boromir, während Pippin wieder einmal zuerst redet und dann erst denkt, wobei sich sein Denken hauptsächlich um die nächste Mahlzeit dreht. Nichtsdestotrotz bekommt Pippin durch seinen Eidschwur Pflichten und auch Rechte, die für einen kleinen Hobbit inmitten großer Menschen schon etwas Außergewöhnliches sind und ihn von seinem Palantir-Erlebnis ablenken.
Vor dem Lesen gab’s wieder einen Schlaftrunk und als Minni an der Bettkante auf ihr alkoholfreies Bierchen wartete, guckte sie mich an und deutete auf den freien Platz an ihrer Seite: “Das ist dein Platz”, stellte sie fest und forderte mich damit ziemlich subtil auf, nun endlich mit dem Lesen zu beginnen.

Der Vortag der Schlacht ist ein Tag des Luftanhaltens für eine ganze Stadt, ein ganzes Land.
Pippin ist deprimiert und einsam. Alle haben etwas zu tun: Die Krieger bereiten sich vor, neue Kämpfer erreichen die Stadt und Gandalf organisiert die Verteidigung Mittelerdes an allen Fronten … nur Pippin ist noch ohne Aufgabe. Der Sohn von Beregond, Beregil, lenkt ihn etwas von seinen trüben Gedanken ab.
Nichtstun und Warten auf etwas, dessen Ausgang man nicht kennt, aber fürchtet, ist oft schlimmer, als sich mitten in einer Katastrophe zu befinden … und das gilt nicht nur für Romanfiguren.
Meine Seniorin war diesmal ziemlich erschöpft, was aber einen guten Grund hatte: sportliche Ertüchtigung war angesagt … so sportlich es eben für eine 92-Jährige sein kann 😉
Da war der Weg in den Schlaf diesmal ein kurzer.

Beizeiten liegt der Fokus meiner Seniorin auf sehr speziellen Vorgängen oder Gegenständen. Aktuell ist es ihr Adressbüchlein. Ständig kreisen ihre Gedanken um das Büchlein und wo es gerade ist. Gestern war es kurzfristig verschollen und bis ich danach gefahndet hatte, rief sie immer wieder relativ verzweifelt an. Alles klärte sich auf, als ich es unter ihr in ihrem Bett fand 😉
Währenddessen durchqueren Aragorn, Legolas und Gimli mitsamt der Dúnedain-Schar den Pfad der Toten. Hier muss ich gestehen, dass die Änderungen von Peter Jackson der Szene interessante Details hinzugefügt hat, die sich im Buch eher als unspektakulär darstellt.

Die Anspannung steigt bei den Kriegern Rohans. Es wird immer wahrscheinlicher, dass nicht alle oder vielleicht keiner aus der Schlacht zurückkehren wird. Die Unausweichlichkeit des vermeintlich ehrenvollen Todes scheint allgegenwärtig.
Aber nicht blinder Heroismus, sondern eher Defätismus mit offenen Augen prägt die allgemeine Stimmung. Aber nicht jede*r hat in dieser Situation eine Aufgabe. Alle, die nicht in das Schema eines nützlichen und starken Kriegers (Maskulinum) passen, werden an den Rand gedrängt und verlieren ihre Daseinsberechtigung – so ergeht es Eowyn und Merry.
Interessant ist in dieser Episode die Erwähnung der Puckelmänner. Sie deutet an, dass es eine Zeit vor und es womöglich auch eine nach dem potentiellen Untergang der eigenen Kultur gibt. Und man selbst in Bezug auf die Länge von Zeitaltern doch sehr unbedeutend ist.
Für meine Zuhörerin ist jeder Gang eine Anstrengung, die auf ihre Notwendigkeit geprüft wird. So neigt sie dazu, darauf zu bestehen, Essen ans Bett gebracht zu bekommen, auch wenn sie eigentlich zum Ort des Essens gehen könnte. Bequemlichkeit schleicht sich ein und sie weiß sehr wohl, bei wem sie mit derlei Anwandlungen durchkommt. Je nach Tageslaune und Frustrationsgrad spielt sie gerne auch mal ein Argument nach dem anderen aus, weshalb sie sich heute mal nicht anstrengen kann/will. Es obliegt einem dann selbst, zu beurteilen, ob sie tatsächlich nicht dazu in de Lage ist oder ob sie einfach nur keine Lust hat.
Senior*innen darf man nicht unterschätzen, wenn es um Manipulation geht 😉

Die Schlacht auf dem Pelennor und ihre Vorbereitungen sind im HdR ja eher so semi-spaßig und ziehen die Stimmung schon mächtig nach unten. Ganz besonders, wenn man die Zeilen laut vorliest wird die Atmosphäre von Seite zu Seite bedrückender und aussichtsloser. Da ist schon die Hoffnung auf eine unerwartete Unterstützung der Drúedain (aka Puckelmänner) ein willkommener Lichtblick.
Tolkien reduziert die Welt durch die Düsternis im realen und übertragenen Sinn auf die wahren Werte: Liebe, Vertrauen, Loyalität, Mut und Beharrlichkeit. Wenn nichts mehr bleibt, man alleine ist und scheinbar nichts mehr einen Sinn ergibt, vermag einem die Verbindung zu geliebten Personen (Menschen, Hobbits u.a.) immer noch etwas Kraft zu vermitteln, um weiterzumachen. Hier sind es Théoden, Éowyn, Merry und Pippin.
Als an einem der letzten Abende Tolkiens Szenerie mal wieder sehr düster und hoffnungslos ausgemalt wurde und meine Zuhörerin trotzdem beinahe einschlummerte, war es im Sinne eines positiven Cliffhangers kaum erfolgversprechend weiterzulesen bis eine weniger katastrophale Stelle käme (die übrigens noch lange nicht kam). Ich versuchte sie mit der Aussicht in den Schlaf zu entlassen, dass es trotz einer aussichtslosen Situation immer auch noch Hoffnung gibt und man nie aufgeben darf. Völlig unvermittelt und ohne zu zögern sagte sie mit 92-jähriger, fester Stimme: “Ja, das muss man!” #lessonlearned

So ein Kraut wäre beizeiten auch in der Non-Fiction eine prima Idee.
Schade, dass auch zum Ende des 5. Buchs Peter Jackson einen wichtigen Charakter eliminierte, denn die Rolle von Imrahil, dem Fürst von Dol Amroth war bei der Schlacht am Pelennor nicht zu unterschätzen.
