Kommentar zum Sammelband:

Die Sammlung dieser 15 Kurzgeschichten ist in der Tat ein kleines Juwel. Keine Ahnung, wieso, aber bei jeder (!) der Geschichten konnte ich etwas Besonderes entdecken, auch wenn das Lesen bei mancher etwas anstrengender war als bei der anderen. Aber manchmal muss man sich eben anstrengen, um das Beste dabei herauszuholen.

Auch wenn Kurzgeschichten oft als “leichte” Kost für Zwischendurch herhalten können, so hat doch jede Autorin/ jeder Autor dieser Anthologie ihr/sein Herzblut in die eigene Erzählung gelegt und sich viele Gedanken gemacht, wie sie ihren Plot zu Papier bringen möchten und was beim Lesen ankommen könnte. Manche Geschichte gibt nicht gleich auf den ersten Blick ihre Schätze preis und es kann hilfreich sein, einen Abschnitt oder die ganze Geschichte mehrmals oder auch mal rückwärts (!) zu lesen.

Und genau diese Mühe wollte ich mit den kleinen, aber feinen Midjourney-Illustrationen wertschätzen, um andere daran teilhaben zu lassen. Es sind Bilder, die (in etwa) mir persönlich dabei ins Hirn projiziert worden sind und weichen selbstverständlich von den Phantasie-Manifestationen der Autor*innen und anderer Leser*innen ab.

Mir ist bewusst, dass GenAI-Produkte nicht unproblematisch sind und kontrovers diskutiert werden, nichtsdestotrotz stehe ich auf dem Standpunkt, dass man mit diesen (hier: Midjourney-) Bildern etwas “Gutes” tun kann, nämlich den Geschichten (m)eine Visualisierung und damit meine Ehrerbietung zu verpassen. Ich muss gestehen, dass ich das in erster Linie vor allem aus ganz egoistischen Gründe tue, denn so kann ich mich wesentlich besser und länger an die Geschichten erinnern, denn gerade Kurzgeschichten verschwinden viel zu schnell aus meinem Speicher.

Die in “Am Saum der Welten” von T.B. Persson kuratierten Kurzgeschichten sind ein Abriss verschiedenster Genre, deren Hauptmerkmale und Grenzen ich leider nicht ausreichend gut kenne, um hier eine Liste aller bedienten Genre, Subgenre und Mischformen aufzuführen.

Es geht mal länger und mal kürzer, mal gefälliger mal lyrischer in den Weltraum, verbleibt auf der Erde, berührt mythologische Wurzeln, streift relativ bald vor uns liegende mögliche Zukünfte, entführt uns auf (noch) unbekannte Planeten, spielt mit dem fließenden Übergang zwischen Fantasy und Science-Fiction, wirft moralische und ethische Fragen auf, bedient Klischees und ist divers, lässt uns durch den Vorhang in allzu nahe und dennoch völlig fremde Welten blicken, regt zum Nachdenken an, schockt und verpasst (mir zumindest) Gänsehaut und rührt (mich) zu Tränen.

Alles in allem ein reich gedeckter Tisch und auch wenn die Geschichten in Form, Inhalt und Länge so unterschiedlich sind, fügen sie sich in T.B. Perssons Anthologie so wunderbar zu einem harmonischen Ganzen. Als ob sich die Familienmitglieder aus allen Ecken des Landes bei einem gemeinsamen Festmahl an einem Tisch versammelt hätten.

Der harmlose Titel einer verhängnisvollen Expedition. Neugier und Vorsicht stellen zwei Schalen einer hochsensiblen Waage dar. Obsiegt die Vorsicht, erfährt man wohl nie, was man verpasst hat. Wiegt aber die Neugier schwerer, bezahlt man sie womöglich mit einem Preis, der einen die Zukunft kostet.

In einer Kurzgeschichte ein völlig surreales Weltenbau-Setting zu vermitteln, verlangt von Autor*innen- und Leser*innenseite viel ab. Ein Genus ist es aber, wenn es zu einem Transfer von Bildern und Ideen zwischen den beiden kommt.

Schein-Toleranz geht immer mit Schein-Argumenten einher. Immer, wenn in einem scheinbar klärendem Gespräch, die Offerte “Das sagen/denken auch die anderen” angebracht wird, ist der Zeitpunkt gekommen, zu gehen.

Man kann es wortlos tun oder eben so, wie der/die Protagonist*in in Alex M. Gastels Kurzgeschichte.

So absurd auf den ersten Blick der Titel erscheinen mag, das Absurde in der richtigen Form vermag Schönheit hervorzubringen. Ein kleiner Kunstgriff an der richtigen Stelle vermag alltäglich Anderes zu etwas Besonderem bis hin zu wahrem Schönen zu wandeln.

Interessante Kombination von Textform und Inhalt.

Traumwandlerisch, schnörkellos und unbefleckt. Gern würde ich mehr über die Fenggin, ihre Ursprünge und über das neu beginnende Leben von Amrei erfahren.

Mantelsaum und Weltentraum

Das Leben fängt oft nicht bereits mit der Geburt, sondern erst mit einer ersten Buchseite an und endet doch nie wirklich.

Ein Kreislauf aus Werden und Vergehen, eingewoben in eine Kurzgeschichte, die wohl einst ein Gedicht war.

Das Muster

Eine Reise auf einen anderen Planeten, wird zu einer Reise zu den tiefsten Gefühlen. Auch wenn man noch so weit geht (fliegt), seine Ängste und Sehnsüchte trägt man stets bei sich.

Offenbar ist es jedoch der eigenen Gesundheit wenig zuträglich, wenn sie auch noch auf extraterrestrische Artefakte treffen. Da werden Gedanken dann doch realer, als man sie ertragen kann.

Eine intensive traurig-dramatische Reise zum Mars und in das Innerste.

Ein überraschender Perspektivenwechsel in einer der denkwürdig alptraumhaftesten und klaustrophobischsten Szenen, die ich seit E.A. Poe nicht mehr aus dem Kopf bekomme. Ich musste bemerken, wie ich selbst flacher zu atmen begann …

Über Bord

Die in der Raumfahrt zu überbrückenden unvorstellbar großen Distanzen stellen wohl eine der größten Herausforderungen an Astronaut*innen, Kosmonaut*innen, Taikonaut*innen, Vyomanaut*innen, Spationaute oder Angkasawan. Deshalb stellt das Versetzen menschlicher (u.a. Lebewesen) Reisender in Stasis eine adäquate Lösung eines Teil der daraus resultierenden Probleme dar. Aber natürlich ist auch die Überantwortung von Tätigkeiten an KI-Roboter ein praktikables Mittel.

Was aber, wenn nicht gerade einer KI zugeschriebene Eigenschaften wie Fürsorge und Empathie vonnöten sind, um auf unvorhergesehene Vorfälle zu reagieren?

Eine einfühlsame Geschichte über den interstellaren Alltag, Langeweile und Entscheidungen einer sich um alle(s) kümmernde KI, die nicht unbedingt nur auf Rationalität begründet sind.

Vom Ende zum Anfang (Monomythos, dekonstruiert)

“Ich bin nicht Du, ich muss nicht tapfer sein.”

Ich gestehe, dass ich vor der Textform zuerst zurückschreckte, da die Geschichte wie in Gedicht aussah .. und dann noch die herunterzählenden Strophen-Nummern … das könnte komplizierter werden, als ich es bei einer Kurzgeschichte erwarte/ersehne. Doch die angedeutete Lyrik und die plötzlich interessant wirkende Reise an den Anfang zogen mich von Zeile zu Zeile, von Strophe zu Strophe in ihren Bann und ich wurde mir von mal zu mal sicherer, dass ich, am Ende/Anfang angekommen, die Geschichte noch einmal werden rückwärts lesen müssen … was ich dann auch tat. Und beim zweiten (ersten!) Lesen in vermeintlich korrekter Reihenfolge, wurde mir der Kampf, die Niederlage, der Verlust und die Erlösung des Protagonisten und Erzählers (oder Erzählerin … oder die zweite Seite der Münze?) auf ganz andere Weise bewusst.

Und, was das oben erwähnte Zitat angeht … LENA!!! Tiefer in dieser Kürze, geht’s kaum!

P.S.: Nur das “er” am Ende von Strophe 5 verstehe ich nicht.

Einsamkeit macht verwundbar. Ganz besonders, wenn man ein introvertiertes Kind ist, kann der Mangel an Zuwendung schnell zur Isolation werden. Manche Wesen spüren diese Verletzlichkeit und wissen sie für ihre Zwecke auszunutzen. Das gilt vor allem für uralte Wesen im Meer …

Grandioser Sprung aus unschuldiger Langweile am vermeintlich harmlosen Nordseestrand hin zu einem lebensbedrohlichen Alptraum.

Die Enyo-Expedition

Gleichgültig, wie weit man in den Weltraum fliegt, Vorurteile, Rassismus und Machtmissbrauch gibt es wohl überall.

Auch in Sonnensystemen am Rand der Galaxie, wo Einsamkeit und Leere die dominierenden Zustände sind, begegnet Valteen Kharal vor allem sich, seiner Geschichte und der Geschichte seiner Kultur. Ein Zufall führt ihn in die Enyo, dem fast mythischen Randgebiet der Galaxie, wohin vor langer Zeit eine Feye-Königin in ihr Exil geflohen ist. Die wohl unwahrscheinlichste Begegnung verschiedener Spezies und ihre Kooperation könnte das uralte und scheinbar unverrückbare Machtgefüge in Valteens Heimat zum Wanken bringen.

Interessante Kombination aus Science-Fiction und Fantasy in den Weiten des Alls, bei der man ein vage Ahnung bekommt, wie viele Geschichten hinter dieser Kurzgeschichte auf ihre Entdeckung warten.

Eine abgeschottete Dorfgemeinschaft, die ein düsteres und erdrückendes Schicksal teilt. Etwas fordert regelmäßig ein Leben als eine Art Tribut ein.

Ich weiß nicht, was mich mehr ergriff: Die unabwendbare Endgültigkeit des Rhythmus oder die zum Nichtstun verdammende, lähmende Angst, die in eine fast erleichterte Gleichgültigkeit mündet, sobald der Tag vorbei ist.

Die Komposition vom (für mich) irritierenden Titel bis zum Schluss lässt eine langjährige Erfahrung der Autorin im Erzählen von Geschichten erkennen. Und ich konnte nicht vermeiden, dass Bilder von “The Village” (M. Night Shyamalan) in meinem Kopf auftauchten.

Zwei Ereignisse treffen aufeinander. Eines, das völlig normal, natürlich und einen relativ privaten Impact hat … und eines, das extraterrestrisch, völlig unwahrscheinlich und durchaus globale Konsequenzen mit sich bringen könnte.

Beides ist auf nicht geklärte Weise miteinander verwoben und nähert sich allmählich an. Allerdings erscheint es mir so, dass diese Kurzgeschichte nicht dazu angetreten ist, Ungereimtheiten aufzulösen, sondern vielmehr diese zu erschaffen und ihre Klärung und Bedeutung der/dem Leser*in zu überlassen. Die schiere Zahl der Andeutungen in dieser kleinen, aber feinen Geschichte, lässt im Kopf ein Geflecht aus möglichen und unmöglichen Varianten zum Weitererzählen entstehen, dass sie der Keim einer eigenen Anthologie sein könnte.

Dass allerdings die Besucher*innen für ihren Besuch einen hohen Preis zu zahlen haben, geschieht weniger häufig. Noch seltener sind dabei göttliche Mächte vermeintlich unterentwickelter Kulturen im Spiel …
